Runway Inspired Happy Birthday

Today I have a card for the current Runway Inspired Challenge which features this fabulous outfit.

I just love how the colourful flowers contrast against the bold design of the black and white.

I went for a graphic look and created my background by using painter's tape and masking off a chevron pattern and inking it up with Black Soot Distress Ink.

The Stencil Flower from Hero Arts was white embossed onto watercolour paper and coloured with Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Seedless Preserves.  To get the inks to blend I sprayed them heavily with water and one quick spray of Perfect Pearls.

I finished off with a sentiment from Altenew and a few embellishments.

Shake Shake Shake It!

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog

It's shaker time at the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge Blog and I just had to play along!  I think everybody loves getting a fun shaker card, it's such an unexpected surprise!

SSS Shaker Card

I used My Favorite Things Say Hello Transformable Die to create the window and I die cut some Memory Box Puffy Clouds in a couple shades of blue to create the background for the window.

Shaker Closeup

I made a glittery sun using Doodlebug Chunky Sugar Glitter and added a sprinkling of enamel dots.

There's still plenty of time to make a card for the challenge, I'm hoping I'll get to make another one before the deadline.

I'm also entering this in Moxie Fabs Wonderful Words Challenge and Virginia's View Challenge #5 Dies.

Ombre With Winnie & Walter

Winnie & Walter are sharing the love of Distress Inks and have a few challenges on the go.

I made a card for the Ombre Challenge using The Big, The Bold and You cut files.

Ombre Challenge @ Winnie & Walter

The thanks die-cut was inked up with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink, the strip along the bottom was inked with Seedless Preserves, going light to dark, and spritzed with Perfect Pearls and I used a stencil with Seedless Preserves to add some texture behind the sentiment.

I finished off with a few (too many, I think) sequins and Glossy Accents over the sentiment.

Stop by to see the wonderful inspiration on the W&W blog!

Wishing you an inky day!

Bokeh

I thought I'd try my hand at a bokeh card, which seem to be pretty popular right now.

I used the Lots of Dots set from Simon Says Stamp, it's perfect for this technique.

Bokeh

The sentiment panel was stamped in yellows, oranges and reds while the background was stamped with different shades of yellow. Because the background is done from one colour family it produces a very soft and fuzzy look with not much of a distinction between the dots while on the sentiment panel the dot shapes are more pronounced.

Here are a few tricks that I figured out along the way.
  • Starting with coloured card stock helps with the layering and blending of dots.
  • Make sure to layer different coloured dots on top of one another.
  • This works really well with the Hero Arts Shadow Inks or die inks.
  • You can use pigment inks though they are more opaque and can block out colours underneath it.
  • I like to start off with the largest circle, stamp it 3-4 times with one colour, then move on to the next colour. Once I've used all the colours, I switch to the second largest dot and stamp in all the different colours and repeat for all the dots sizes.
  • When I'm done with all my stamping I like to soften it and make it a little more fuzzy by taking Memories White Dye Ink and stamping a few of the larger dots randomly over the piece.
This is definitely a fun and addicting technique, I hope you'll give it a try!

Dazzling Birthday

My card today is based on the card below, which I made a few weeks ago.

Happy Birthday

I wanted the sentiment to take centre stage so I picked a few birthday greetings from my Hero Arts stamps, made a little grouping, and white embossed them.

Dazzling Birthday

For a watercolour look, I used Distress Inks to paint over the sentiments and make them pop.

To make the card a little more dazzling I added gold glitter card stock, some gold glitter hearts and a few touches with a Wink of Stella pen.

I'm entering this card over at Simon Says Stamps Anything Goes Challenge. There's still lots of time to play along.

Anything Goes

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog

It's Anything Goes over at the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge and today I made a card with no sentiment.

Simon Says Tag Card

When I was going through my stash of cards yesterday I noticed I did not have any blank cards and I always like to have a few of these around so I can add a sentiment or hand written note on the inside when needed. Do you like to keep blank cards in your stash?

Tag Card

I just got my hands on some of the Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder so I wanted to try it out on my card. Love how it looks with the Lattice stamp on the black card stock, though it is a bit hard to get a good pic to show the sparkle.

I white embossed the Penny Black flower onto the tag and coloured some white seam binding with Peacock Feathers to match the card stock.
